A breast milk protein complex called human alpha-lactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells, or HAMLET, may strengthen antibiotics' ability to fight drug-resistant bacteria, according to a study in the journal PLOS One. HAMLET can increase bacteria's vulnerability to antibiotics such as penicillin and erythromycin, researchers said. In laboratory tests, the protein allowed for the use of lower doses of antibiotics.
