A report by the Campaign to End Obesity showed obesity screening by doctors could help save as much as $44 billion in the long run, while the S-CHIP childhood obesity demonstration project could yield up to $41 billion in long-term federal savings. The Diabetes Prevention Program may also generate long-term savings worth $18.4 billion, and weight-loss medications under Medicare Part D may help the U.S. save up to $11.4 billion, researchers said.
