Prosaposin and Thrombospondin 1 appear to prevent cancer from metastasizing, researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College say. Secretion of prosaposin in metastatic-incompetent tumors increased expression of Tsp-1 in bone marrow myeloid cells, blocking the cancer's spread, the researchers say. The finding could inform the design of new therapeutic agents as well as diagnostic tests.
