Spanish researchers at the Autonomous University of Barcelona have created a hose to carry a magnetic field over a distance. A cylinder made of superconducting material was filled with cobalt-iron alloy, which is highly magnetic. A magnetic field was created about 1.57 inches, or 4 centimeters, away when current was run through the tube. Scientists say greater distances should be possible.
