Home sales and consumer confidence are both on the rise, spurring a 2.8% rise in furniture and home furnishing sales in March, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Retailers including Target and J.C. Penney aim to make the most of the recovery, with expanded offerings such as Target's new Threshold home decor line that's on display in a life-size dollhouse the retailer set up at New York City's Grand Central Station.
Attendance at RECon, which will launch on May 19 in Las Vegas, is expected to be the highest it has been since before the recession, at 33,000. Also, some 1,000 companies will be exhibiting at the conference.
Sonae Sierra Brasil's Boulevard Londrina Shopping, in Paraná, Brazil, has opened its doors. The retail center is 88% leased to such tenants as Centauro, Arezzo, Riachuelo, Artex, Renner, Marisa, Magazine Luiza, Kalunga and Hering.
Nanuet Mall in Rockland County, N.Y., is being redeveloped by Simon Property Group into The Shops at Nanuet. The new concept is an "open-air regional main street," designed to differentiate the retail center from nearby competitors.
