The Roofing Company of Burlington and Johnson & Sons Roofing have merged to create Right Choice Roofing in Racine County, Wis. The new company handles residential, commercial, industrial and institutional roofing.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker signed right-to-work legislation on Monday, making Wisconsin the 25th state with a law restricting labor groups' ability to organize workers. President Barack Obama criticized Walker's involvement in limiting union activities in his state, urging him to help middle class families "not by stripping their rights in the workplace, but by offering them all the tools they need to get ahead."
Potawatomi Bingo Casino inked an agreement to be the "official gaming partner" of a Sheboygan County, Wis., road racing course. Financial terms for the deal with Road America were not released. The Potawatomi Bingo Casino in Milwaukee is owned by the Forest County Potawatomi Community.
Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a group of companies in the state have received a $7 million federal grant for a project that would use cow manure to produce ethanol in Manitowoc County, Wis. The idea behind the process is to break down the manure into different components that could be used to make a range of products, including biofuels. "Our idea is to put a small refinery on a dairy farm," said Aicardo Roa-Espinosa, founder of Soil Net, a biological systems technology firm.
A hailstorm that struck Dane County, Wis., destroyed a number of roofs, increasing demand for roof repair services. Scott Frey, owner of Frey Construction and Home Improvement, said the storm has greatly increased his business and he plans to hire 10 or 15 more workers to double his crews. "It's still a trying time for roofing and construction, and a storm can really boost things. It does create work, which is a good thing for our industry," said Casey Haselwander, a sales representative at Sauk Prairie Remodeling.
