Two union groups representing about 20,000 workers from the Department of Homeland Security plan to oppose the Senate bill on immigration, citing public safety concerns. In a letter to Congress, Chris Crane, president of the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council, called the measure a "dramatic step in the wrong direction." That letter recently was co-signed by Kenneth Palinkas, president of the National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council.
