About half of plastic surgeons use social media for marketing purposes, according to a survey of American Society of Plastic Surgeons members that was published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Surgeons who primarily perform aesthetic procedures were most likely to use social media, the survey found. Plastic surgeons should carefully weigh social media's risks before using it, said researcher and plastic surgeon Reza Jarrahy, an associate clinical professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
