Frailty can help predict whether heart surgery and hemodialysis patients will have poor outcomes, according to studies presented at the American Geriatrics Society's annual meeting. Researchers said 61% of frail cardiac surgery patients had an adverse outcome, compared with 26% of nonfrail patients. Among hemodialysis patients, three-year mortality rates were 40.2% for frail subjects, compared with 16.2% for nonfrail patients.
