The body's internal clock boosts late-night hunger as well as appetite for certain foods at certain times, according to a study in the journal Obesity. The study of healthy, non-obese adults' food preferences and appetites found that participants were most hungry at 8 p.m. and least hungry at 8 a.m. Artificial light allows people to stay awake late into the evening, when the body is naturally hungry for high-calorie foods, contributing to weight gain, lead author Steven Shea said.
