A review published in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine found that while 18F-FLT has been seen as a promising tracer for imaging cancer proliferation, its performance falls short of the standard FDG. In one study, 18F-FDG showed higher sensitivity in detecting pancreatic tumors. In another study, 18F-FLT was found to have lower uptake than FDG in head and neck cancers. "As F-18 FLT finds more applications in proliferation imaging, its benefits and limitations will be better known," researchers said.
