There is a disconnect between what students are taught in high school and what community colleges expect of those students, according to a new study from the National Center on Education and the Economy. In math and reading, students did not have the skills needed to do college-level work, the study found. Low standards at many colleges increase the problem, said NCEE President Marc Tucker, an author of the report. "The first line of defense here is to greatly increase the number of young people who can meet the standards, low as they are," Tucker noted.
