A tax on carbon would be the most beneficial policy that the federal government could implement "to propel the [wind] industry forward," according to a poll conducted at the WINDPOWER 2013 Conference in Chicago. Half of the respondents said that a carbon tax would have the greatest impact on the industry, while 27% said a national renewable portfolio standard would be most beneficial. Meanwhile, former Rep. Jim McCrery, R-La., who is now a partner at Capitol Counsel, stated that expanding master limited partnerships to renewable-energy projects should not be a substitute for the wind-energy Production Tax Credit.
