As the Common Core State Standards are being phased in at Tennessee's public schools, some teachers say it's challenging to jump into new guidelines and assessments, but the new standards should be seen as a positive change in education. "What Common Core is intended to do is establish a depth of understanding to go forward so students will have a better feel for what they're doing," said Cyndy Howes, who teaches AP calculus and honors precalculus at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood.
