In a second suit within a week, the U.S. has sued Novartis for allegedly paying kickbacks to doctors for more than a decade to steer patients toward its drugs. Earlier, the government charged that Novartis had paid pharmacies to switch patients to its kidney-transplant medications. Novartis President Andre Wyss said the company "invests significant time and resources to help ensure we conduct our business in an ethical and responsible manner." He said pharmaceutical discounts and rebates "are a customary, appropriate and legal practice as recognized by the government itself."
