The Common Core State Standards has skeptics among teachers and others who doubt they will benefit teaching and learning, offers Laura Thomas, the director of Antioch University's Center for School Renewal. Thomas writes in this commentary that she first read the standards with a sense of dread, but by the end, she writes that she found her "best professional self" along with an opportunity to avoid teaching to the test and to place the responsibility for learning back on students.
