Budget constraints, as well as state and campus politics, are making it more difficult for academics to find full-time positions at community colleges, suggests Rob Jenkins, an associate professor of English at Georgia Perimeter College. Factors such as legislative moves to eliminate tenure as well as biases against hiring adjuncts to fill full-time slots are also at issue, Jenkins writes in this commentary. "Other than becoming politically active in your state, you probably can't do much about any of these, but you should be aware of them," Jenkins writes.
