The raising of the Bayonne Bridge has officially started. The bridge -- over the Kill van Kull tidal strait between New York's Staten Island and Bayonne, N.J. -- will be raised by 64 feet so that it will stand 215 feet above the water at high tide. The $1.3 billion project is expected to generate 2,500 construction jobs, according to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
