Farmers and food production companies in Santa Cruz County, Calif., created 11,000 jobs and contributed $1.5 billion to the county's economy in 2011, according to a report from the county's Agricultural Commissioner. Agriculture grew 28% in the past decade, holding its own through two major recessions with a diverse lineup of crops that's growing to be a bit more homogenous as berries account for an increasing amount of the total acreage.
