A prekindergarten through eighth-grade school in Birmingham, Ala., is celebrating its new status as an International Baccalaureate school. Officials of the nonprofit Christian school say the distinction will mean a greater emphasis on critical thinking, and students also will be expected to consider their role in the world. "We have to not only educate our children to thrive in a world that's become very small, but also understand that world," said Nita Carr, the school's executive director.
