Research has shown that choral singing produces a number of benefits for aging minds, with the experience serving to keep social connections active and the work of learning new songs firing up new neural connections. A new movie with Vanessa Redgrave, "Unfinished Song," makes the point, but the Young@Heart choir of Northampton, Mass., provides a real-life example, with its minimum age of 73. "It exercises the brain. You have to learn stuff. People work hard to stay in and continue," said choir director Bob Cilman.
