Studies show black, Hispanic and Asian breast cancer patients in the U.S. are less likely than their white counterparts to receive reconstructive surgery following mastectomy, and although black women are less likely than white women to get breast cancer, they are more likely to die from it. The Breast Cancer Patient Education Act aims to increase the awareness of treatment and reconstruction options among women of racial and ethnic minority groups.
