A study in The Journal of Urology found that the use of an EHR-enabled care coordination system could decrease the average number of urology visits needed by patients with hematuria to complete an evaluation, which could lead to reduced health care costs. The study indicated the mean number of urology visits needed by patients in the standard referral group was 2.1, compared with 1.6 in the care coordination group.
