The chemical plant accident in West, Texas, shows that the Environmental Protection Agency needs to do more in plant-safety enforcement despite strong efforts to regulate the industry, writes Bob Perciasepe, the agency's acting administrator. The additional measures "must include renewed focus on supporting local responders, further efforts by the federal government to advance additional chemical plant safety measures, and standardizing the best practices of industry leaders," he writes.
