Facebook's move to allow users to post their organ donor status in May 2012 significantly boosted awareness about life-saving donations and transplants, according to a study in the American Journal of Transplantation. Nearly 60,000 Facebook users added their organ donor status the first day they could, and a link sent interested users to a signup page for the national Donate Life tissue, organ and eye registry. In the first 13 days of the program, 40,000 people registered as new donors.
