Some fibromyalgia patients with an implanted device that stimulates the occipital nerve at the nape of the neck reported lower pain scores over six months, says Dr. Mark Plazier of University Hospital Antwerp in Belgium. He is presenting the study at an International Neuromodulation Society meeting, along with separate research that used PET scans to indicate that the nerve stimulation may change activity in the brain's limbic system.
