As more states begin to adopt laws requiring the labeling of foods with genetically modified ingredients, the Grocery Manufacturers Association says it will fight those efforts. In a statement, GMA said up to 80% of grocery store items contain GMOs "because they require fewer pesticides, help foods have a longer shelf life and keep production costs down." GMA has found an ally in Baylen Linnekin, the executive director of Keep Food Legal, who says despite pending bills in 25 states on labeling, "I would not say it's inevitable."
