The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association issued an expanded guideline for heart failure management in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. The guidance includes updated definitions and classifications, and it includes the full scope of inpatient and outpatient treatment, from initial assessment through palliative care. "In the past few years, a lot of tough work has been done showing there are effective therapies and that when given correctly, major improvements in survival do occur," guideline committee chairman Dr. Clyde W. Yancy said.
