MIT graduate student David Sengeh has created the Human Bionic Project, an online repository of information about FDA-approved prosthetic replacement parts. Working under MIT professor Hugh Herr, a double amputee, Sengeh developed an interactive human figure with 40 to 50 points of reference that link to photographs and descriptions of prostheses and other replacement parts, such as artificial hearts, that are available. Sengeh, who calls the project "a first information point" for amputees and care providers, plans to incorporate patient-sourced videos of prostheses in action, as well as a timeline of prosthetic advancements.
