Consistency is the key to good leadership, says Laszlo Bock, senior vice president of people operations at Google. A degree of managerial predictability makes workers feel more secure and confident in what's expected of them, Bock explains. "If a leader is consistent, people on their teams experience tremendous freedom. ... If your manager is all over the place, you're never going to know what you can do, and you're going to experience it as very restrictive," Bock says.
