A new free-choice block supplement that Kansas State University professor Jim Drouillard calls a "250-pound piece of candy for livestock" has received a patent. The block, a combination of molasses, oilseeds and oilseed extracts, is designed to increase omega-3 fatty acid levels and boost immunity, growth, reproduction and fertility. "The product's physical characteristics restrict the animals to consuming less than a pound each day, making it a convenient and cost effective way to deliver essential nutrients," Drouillard says.
