Aided by a $3.5 million grant from NASA, researchers are embarking on a project to use satellite data and software tools to map where food is grown around the world. The research comes at a time when the U.N. is predicting the global population could increase by 2 billion people by 2050. "Everybody's concerned about food security going forward because of population growth," said Prasad Thenkabail, a research geographer with the U.S. Geological Survey.
