The rate of religious exemptions for vaccinations in 34 counties across New York more than doubled from 2000 to 2011, according to a study published in the journal Pediatrics. Researchers noted that counties with at least 1% of children getting religious exemptions for a vaccine had a higher number of pertussis cases compared with counties that had lower exemption rates.
