Close to 1 in 4 stroke survivors will go on to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, and those who develop the condition following stroke may then face an increased risk of cardiovascular problems or repeat stroke, researchers report in PLoS One. Although findings do not show a causal relationship between stroke and PTSD, "you can't develop PTSD without a life-threatening event," said researcher Donald Edmondson.
