New York City restaurants and food vendors are protesting Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed ban of polystyrene foam in food packaging. The measure could cost up to $100 million annually, and business would have to spend at least $1.94 on alternatives for every dollar previously spent on PS containers, according to an American Chemistry Council study. "The premise of this bill is that polystyrene foam is not recyclable, and that is wrong," said Richard Master, CEO of MCS Industries, a company that makes moldings from recycled PS foam.
