Tom Kalil, White House deputy director for technology and innovation, at a forum on Wednesday discussed the Obama administration's plans to prepare and recruit 100,000 new teachers in science, technology, engineering and math during the next decade. Panelists agreed on the need to improve undergraduate STEM education and provide a path from STEM careers to teaching. "We have folks who have been trained in math and science careers and are looking at education as a second career," Becky Pringle, secretary-treasurer of the National Education Association, said.
