Moviegoers consult 13 sources of information online before deciding which film to see at the theater, including social media sources where word-of-mouth buzz spurs viewers to search trailers, says a Google white paper. Google's research found a 56% increase in the number of movie-related searches in 2012 despite a small drop in the number of films released. The research also notes that box office success can be predicted with a 94% accuracy rate based on number of YouTube views a trailer receives a month before release, making social sharing of trailers an important factor for movie marketers.
