Developers of smart grid technology looking for more insight into their target market can find some answers in the results of a survey from GTM Research that finds municipal utilities in the U.S. are primarily looking for tools that enable them to better automate decision making and respond faster to problems. The poll of approximately 1,500 city-owned utilities found munis will spend as much as $9 billion over the next four years on smart grid solutions, the bulk of it on advanced metering infrastructure and distribution automation technology.
