Sales of deferred-income annuities rose for the fifth straight quarter in the first three months of 2013, surging 150% from the same period a year earlier, according to the Beacon Research Fixed Annuity Premium Study. Overall first-quarter annuities sales suffered from continued low interest rates. "Deferred-income annuities were a bright spot in a difficult quarter," said Jeremy Alexander, CEO of Beacon Research.
