San Diego strawberry grower Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce is the first to test a new food-safety program as part of Oxfam America's Equitable Food Initiative. The program emphasizes worker education to boost food safety and worker pay, and to improve conditions in the field; retailer Costco Wholesale and cafe operator Bon Appétit Management have agreed to support the effort by paying higher prices for the berries.
