Using a $30,000 grant from the National Writing Project, the University of South Carolina Aiken is hosting the Aiken Writing Project's Summer Institute for teachers -- training them to help students develop into better writers and to work on their own writing. "We have to incorporate so much writing in our science content," middle-school science teacher Christine Walcott said. "I increased my journal writing and also did argumentative papers, which can engage students in science. We need to make sure that everything connects -- English, math, all the content areas," she added.
