The data privacy laws in the EU could make it harder for energy users to enjoy the benefits of energy management and smart metering technologies, according to the Smart Energy Demand Coalition. "European policymakers must recognize the potential risks to energy efficiency benefits and consumer data access from restrictive data protection proposals," said the SEDC's Jessica Stromback, who added, "This is an artificial conflict between efficiency and privacy which is unnecessary and should be resolved."
