Robots have previously been developed to smell contaminants in the air, but a new algorithm now can quickly guide a robot to the contaminant's source. The software developed by engineer Tien-Fu Lu at Australia's University of Adelaide allows the robot to gauge the concentration of hydrogen sulphide at a given location and compare it with concentrations at two previous locations to indicate a pathway to the source.
