Students at Norfolk Elementary School in Arkansas may learn up to four different ways to solve a math problem. While the new approach has contributed to better scores on benchmark exams, it has left some parents frustrated when trying to help their children with homework, principal Deanna Klaus said. As such, the school now provides two back-to-back math classes. The first class uses traditional instructional methods, and the second one is devoted to completing tasks that students use to work on at home, but now they have the support of educators trained to use the new teaching methods.
