Producing algae in Australia for biofuel and other applications could create up to 50,000 jobs and generate more than $46 billion annually, according to a report by think tank Future Directions International. Western Australia is particularly suited for commercial-scale algae production, the group said. U.S.-based Aurora Algae is expanding its algae business in the region with a proposed facility to produce omega oils, animal feed and biofuels.
