Consumers have started to consume data in much heavier doses on iPads that run on cellular networks after several years of surfing primarily on Wi-Fi-based models, according to a survey of eight global mobile network operators -- including two in the U.S. -- from mobile analytics firm Actix. The company says iPads that access cell networks have quadrupled their data consumption in six months with two cell-based models -- the iPads 2 and 3 -- for the first time invading the top 10 list of data-hungry tablets.
