A study in the journal Neurology found patients with mild TBI showed white matter abnormalities in the brain that are akin to those in patients with early signs of Alzheimer's disease. "Our preliminary findings suggest that the initial traumatic event that caused the concussion acts as a trigger for a sequence of degenerative changes in the brain that result in patient symptoms and that may be potentially prevented," lead researcher Dr. Saeed Fakhran said.
