A school in Mounds, Ill., faces a cost of $1 million to $3 million -- up to half its annual operating budget -- to remove toxic mold growing in the school. The mold was discovered as the district prepared to repaint the walls, said Meridian School District Superintendent Terry Moreland. An architect says the school is possibly rife with the toxic mold, which could threaten occupants' health if the spores become airborne.
