Oral health is a critical part of overall health, but the Affordable Care Act does little to address dental care, says American Dental Association President Robert Faiella. As dental coverage has declined, fewer adults have sought care from a dentist and more have been treated for dental problems in hospital emergency departments. Rules implementing pediatric dental coverage could result in premium hikes, leading adults to drop coverage for themselves in order to buy it for their children, says NADP Executive Director Evelyn Ireland, resulting in "a net loss of coverage in the overall population."
