Integrating medical care and alternative therapies led to a more than 20% reduction in patient-reported pain severity after 24 weeks of treatment, University of California at San Francisco researchers reported in the journal BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Lead researcher Dr. Donald Abrams said there have been therapeutic advances in treating chronic pain, but treatment resistance and adverse reactions can be issues.
